West central Ohio’s educational opportunities provide workers with the skills you need and develop new skills as your business requires.
The education and training resources in west central Ohio are excellent. Our primary and secondary schools put heavy emphasis on state-of-the art facilities, equipment, and curriculum. Our local school district has recently invested more than $67 million in new facilities and technology. It is typical of the districts in the region. Our students excel in academics, arts and sports. The west central Ohio school districts rank among the best in the country for academic success. Our students are well prepared to enter the workforce. They take their education very seriously. Our local attendance rates exceed 96% and graduation rates are currently at 94%. The region’s students come to school ready to learn and receive the support at home required for success. These values readily extend into their work habits.
Beyond high school, there are 187 institutions of higher education in Ohio, more than any other state on a per capita basis. There are 95,000 degrees conferred each year to associate, bachelor, and graduate students. Ohio ranks fourth in the integration of technology, especially IT, into its education system, according to the State New Economy Index. This provides employers with a competitive, technology-based workforce. Within the west central Ohio region there are 17 universities, colleges and technical centers. The West Central Ohio Industrial Center is within a 45 minute drive of the majority of these institutions.
Ohio’s education system does not end with graduation. The state offers unique workforce programs for continuing education to help employers conduct necessary pre-employment and on-the-job training. When you locate in west central Ohio, you’ll be close to universities, community colleges, and technical centers where your workforce can receive continuing training. And with more than half a million students currently enrolled in Ohio universities, the state is preparing the workforce of the future.
The west central Ohio training consortiums also work closely with regional companies and education providers to identify and deliver advanced manufacturing training to current and displaced workers. Training is delivered on-site, on-line or on-campus. Employers select what works best for them.
