The West Central Ohio Industrial Center (WCOIC) has direct access to a CSX Transportation Class 1, mainline rail on its west perimeter. A new lead track from the mainline on to the Job Ready Site was recently constructed.  CSXT operates the largest rail system in the eastern U.S. linking commercial markets in 23 states with rail, intermodal, and rail-to-truck transload services.  Its newest intermodal terminal, less than 50 miles north of WCOIC, is an integral part of the National Gateway project linking the Midwest with Mid-Atlantic ports.

Northwest Ohio Intermodal Terminal

CSX hosted an open house event at its new Northwest Ohio Intermodal Terminal on June 28 in North Baltimore. The 500 acre site is hailed for its use of cutting-edge technology and green designs, including ultra-efficient electric cranes that lower emissions, optical scanners that reduce truck idle times, and automated car tracking technologies and remote switches that increase opera-tional efficiency. CSX has invested $175 million in the facility that employees more than 200, will service 800 trains per week, and handle an estimated 2 million con-tainers annually.

The project is a cornerstone of the National Gateway initiative to create a new double-stack freight rail corri-dor between East Coast seaports and Midwestern markets. The National Gateway is supported by more than 300 public and private sector organizations. The North Baltimore facility will become an important eco-nomic development asset for the entire northwestern Ohio region. It is less than 60 miles north of the West Central Ohio Industrial Center in Wapakoneta on the CSX mainline rail.
